We have put together a list of the the top ten anti-aging tips that will help you maintain a youthful skin appearance and slow down the aging process.
Watch What You Eat – It’s easy to chow down on a supersized fast food meal for lunch every day, but your body won’t thank you for it. Stop weight gain, high blood pressure, and increased cholesterol by introducing heart-healthy foods into your diet. Swap your donut for a fruit salad with low-fat yogurt and your burger with lean chicken or fish and a salad. Small changes every day will add up to decreased likeliness of disease, more energy, and a smaller figure.
Drink Plenty Of Water – Your brain is composed of 95% water, your blood is 82%, and your lungs are nearly 90% water. Replenishing the moisture that is lost throughout the day is critical to your short and long term health. Drinking eight, 8 oz. glasses of water per day will improve your memory, fight against irritability, help you think more sharply, ward off disease, ease joint and back pain, and enhance the health and glow of your skin.
Keep It Moving – Exercise doesn’t just help you lose weight. A physically active lifestyle has also been linked to an increase of HDL (“good”) cholesterol, lowered blood pressure, an improved mood and less chance of depression, higher bone density, stabilized blood sugar levels, and a boosted immune system. Each of these benefits are counteracted by the aging process. By fitting at least thirty minutes of exercise, three times a week, into your lifestyle, you’ll help your body fight the natural aging process.
Stay Organized With Lists – Can´t sleep? Lots of little things running through your mind could be the problem. Instead of solving all of life´s little problems when you should be asleep, write them down and then put them out of your mind until tomorrow. Believe it or not, the process of writing them down helps to sort things out in your mind. What is even better is the fact that your subconscious will work on the problems while you are asleep and in the morning… a lot of the problems won´t seem quite so bad. Solutions have already occurred to you.
Stay Current With Fashion – Wearing the right clothes can have a tremendous impact on the age you appear to be. A forty-year-old woman can cause herself to look anywhere from 25 to 55 based on the clothes she wears. Pick up a copy of a fashion book and see for yourself the amazing style transformations that are possible. Doing so can shed years off of your appearance.
Moisturize Every Day – Regardless of gender, make a point to moisturize your face every morning. The moisturizer guards against the dry, dull skin that is more likely to develop premature wrinkles. To add more power to your routine, choose a face lotion containing SPF 15 or higher.
No More Late Nights – Your immune system gets to work building cells to fight off disease and rebuilding tissue as you sleep each night. A disturbed sleep cycle, often experienced by the over-stressed, the non-exercisers, and those with a substance dependency problem, robs you of energy the coming day and can actually shorten your life span! Decide on a reasonable time to get to sleep each night and stick with it. You’ll be more energetic when you wake up and have a healthier body to show for it.
Don’t smoke. Smoking is the second leading cause of premature wrinkles. It upsets the body’s mechanism for breaking down old skin and renewing it.
Develop Hobbies – Nothing keeps you younger than participating in an activity that you enjoy.
Reduce Stress – Sometimes stress in our lives is unavoidable but you can do things that will reduce the impact. When you’re feeling stressful and a bit overwhelmed you can do some stretches, fill up the air with scent or have a good laugh.
Maximize Your Intake of Antioxidants. Everyone should “take a combination of antioxidants” through diet and supplementation. Eat dark-colored vegetables like tomatoes, carrots, squash, and spinach for carotenoids and blue and purple berries for flavonoids. Because foods contain many classes of antioxidants that work synergistically, they are the superior source of antioxidants. But because we don’t always eat as we should, you can take daily supplements of the “classic” antioxidants: 200-250 mg of vitamin C; 100-400 IU of vitamin E; and a mixed carotenoid supplement of 6-10 mg.
Minimize alcohol consumption. Alcohol dehydrates the skin, depleting it of moisture. It can also cause broken or distended capillaries on the nose and face.
